Faith
While my faith is outside of the scope of this weblog, it is so much a part of who I am, that I have decided to include this page anyway…
Humans don’t like anyone telling them in whom or what to believe. We don’t like it because we don’t like anyone trying to tell us what to do. Therefore, we often ignore or deny that which may obviously be true.
I believe that this is the simple truth. (I know this isn’t much of a proof, but others have given better evidence that I would be able to.)
- I believe in God and I believe He created us (Gen 1:1).
- I believe that God is perfect and righteous and that He has high standards for us. These standards are the 10 Commandments (Exo 10:1-17).
- If we fail to perfectly live up to this standard, we will fail to be right in God’s eyes, and as a just God, He cannot let imperfect people into heaven. (2 Thes 1:9, Rom 2:5-11)
- I believe this creates a big problem for all people because no one ever can live perfectly. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory [standard] of God.”
- God in His justice must demand a payment of our sin. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death[...]“
- God, since He loves us, demonstrated His love to us by solving this problem. He came down to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, lived a perfect life, then died to pay the “wage” for our sin. Romans 6:23 continues, “[...]the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
- In order to receive this gift that God has given, I believe we simply need to recognize our need for it, then ask God to give it to us. If we ask, He promises he will. Romans 10:13 says, “For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
- It is by God’s goodness and grace that we are saved (Eph 2:8), not because of anything we do. Therefore, it is only right for us to live our lives in obedience to God out of gratitude.
