Since it’s launch in 2012, Medium.com has been catching eyes for its excellent, well-considered design. All aspects of the online writing experience have been carefully considered and honed to be excellent: writing, commenting, browsing, etc. It’s truly a remarkable app and I’ve long had a deep respect for the team who put it all together.
Recently a friend of mine asked me to help her put together a theme for her WordPress blog. As we discussed it and look at some ideas, I decided it was a perfect time to make a WordPress theme that was inspired by Medium’s excellent design. Thus Readium was born.
Here are the details:
- WordPress theme
- 2 Widget areas
- 2 Menu regions
- Simple sharing built-in
- Header image can be set for the site and for individual posts and pages
- Title can be shown in a white header bar or as an overlay on the header image
- Features a “resource” custom post type that displays in a Pinterest-style, stacked layout (request of friend for whom I built the theme).
- HTML5, CSS3, Responsive, blah blah…
- It’s pretty.
